Access Changes Everything: Ayanna’s Story

This Black History Month, we’re honored to spotlight Ayanna, a woman whose journey reflects what becomes possible when perseverance meets the right support system.

Before finding Dress for Success San Francisco/San Jose, Ayanna faced housing instability and was working a minimum-wage job. Like so many women navigating systemic barriers, she was doing everything she could to move forward.

“Through perseverance and growth, I was promoted, eventually secured full-time employment, and have now been with the same organization for nearly seven years,” Ayanna shared.

Today, Ayanna is a full-time professional, a single mother of two amazing sons, and will graduate from Notre Dame de Namur University in May 2026 with a BA in Psychology.

“As I pursue new opportunities, Dress for Success has helped me feel interview-ready, confident, and empowered. They gave me the confidence and assurance I needed to successfully re-enter—and continue advancing in—the workforce.”

At Dress for Success San Jose, we don’t just prepare women for interviews, we walk alongside them as they build lasting careers.

Become a volunteer and be part of the support that makes stories like Ayanna’s possible.
